After finishing the book Just Mercy, the one thing aspect that stuck out the most to me was the overwhelming sense I got from the presentation of countless cases that needed EJI's help; this meant they dealt with unjust rulings in wrongful convictions, cruel and unusual punishment, and discrimination.
I created my own newspaper designs based on some of the major cases presented in the book. Then I ripped them up and collaged them together for the cover and back cover. The title is gold leafed. First I took the title, Just Mercy, in Bebas Nue. Then I stenciled it in glue and then covered it in gold leaf. After scanning these assets in, I used photoshop to combine the cover together.
Based off of the cover, this advertisement poster takes the design and flips it. Where there was gold there is newspaper, and where there was a collage there is now gold. It uses the same elements and typefaces for consistency but keeps the viewer intrigued to learn more about this book.
